Just when we thought we would stay in our house for many more years...We discovered that a family was leaving Chatham in the summer month and would be selling their house. The location of this house was where we have thought about building or buying for a number of years.
In our excitement for the possibility, we de-cluttered our house and did some touch up painting and tidying (I think Brian was happy I am a perfectionist when it comes to my house and keeping it tidy…it didn't take much to get this ready).
The next step was listing out house. We listed with some great agents who are a father-son combo. We had I believe 6 showings in a matter of 5 days. To our excitement, we had an offer on the house within a week. Home inspection is complete and the SOLD sign is up.
The nerves then set in….what if we don't get the house we sold our house for. We did view a couple of "back up" houses just in case.
So Saturday was the big day to view "the house". We sold our house without actually seeing the inside of "the house". Call us crazy! After viewing we put in an offer which was accepted. Needless to say we slept much better last night.
The closing dates however are not the same. We have to out of our house by June 30th and we do not move into the new house until July 30th. We will spend one month living at my in-laws house since they spend the month of July at the trailer. We will also be on vacation for 10 days during July.
The immediate plans include some painting and removing the bedroom carpeting and hopefully put in hardwood. Plans are already whirling and swirling in our heads.
Some may ask, "But why"? You have a beautiful home.
Well to put it simply, location and size. We have outgrown our cozy home. We have a very small backyard. The girls love to be outside and run. There is just not much room for them to do that.
Secondly, we have completed pretty much all the renovations we could before we started over again. It took us 2 years but we had the house where we wanted it. We need a new project or just a break with a fresh start.
The packing has begun and will continue for the next 2 months. Then there will be a months break and then a round of unpacking.
Here are some pictures of the new house.
In the coming weeks I will take photos of "our first house" and post. If I can find before and after shots of each room I will. That may actually prove to be difficult now that I am thinking about it, because I would have to go through a lot of negatives from the pre-digital era.
